Building a free web site

The Internet has provided a new world of oportunities for authors that want to express their ideas. Now, everyone can be a publisher, and there is no limit on the number of people that can have access to your work.
However, to show your texts to the world, you need to have a web site. Hapilly, the web has also numerous places where you can set up a free web site, that can be accessible to anyone. Now, you certainly don't have any excuses for not having your work published in the Internet.

Finding a free host service

The first step in building a free web site is finding a host service. The Internet has a lot of web site that offer free space for writers. It all depends on what you want to publish.

Blog platforms

If you intend to write a blog, that is, a web site that is frequently updated with new information, there are nowadays several host services that can provide you with space. Among the best well know of them are:
  • Blogger: blogger is a web site maintained by Google. It offers an unlimited number of pages, so you don't need to worry about the available capacity for your site. Blogger is easy to use, and require a minimum of knowledge to have your blog working. Find an example of blogger blog here, and here.
  • Wordpress: If you are a little more experienced, a better choice could be the wordpress system, which you can access at wordpress.com. The advantage of wordpress is that they have a professional blogging platform, which can be later moved to a paid web site, if you decide. To master wordpress, however, you need to get involved with plugins, extensions, and even PHP, if you want to extend it. Find examples of Wordpress blog here.
  • Typepad: typepad.com is another popular choice for bloggers.You can open a free account wih them, and later on you can get a paid account, if you feel that this will improve your experience. Typepad is also based on a professional system, and you will have a lot of room for improvement.

Google Page Creator
